Thanks to Giò Ponti, in 1927 Rinascente participated in the third Monza Biennale. For this occasion, Giò Ponti and Emilio Lancia created Domus Nova, a collection of home furnishings. The idea was very ambitious for the time: to provide innovative solutions for contemporary homes.
As in the case of refrigerators, they were offered for the first time on the Italian market at competitive prices or the entry on the scene of the revolutionary miniskirt, which the creator Mary Quant presented in 1965 in Rinascente.
Rinascente has always had an exclusive fashion offer. Moreover, it has been the promoter in Italy of ready-to-wear, thanks to the precious insights of many designers. Among them, Giorgio Armani who began his career in 1957 in Rinascente Milano Piazza Duomo; Ottavio and Rosita Missoni who presented the Milan-Sympathy collection in 1958 and in 1963 Pierre Cardin, who exhibited his dresses in a department store for the first time.
With the total opening of its flagship, Rinascente Florence reaffirms itself as the "Store of Craft" par excellence of Made in Italy, capable of satisfying all the demands of its affectionate local public and tourists. The works, which began in September 2018, involved all the spaces of the 3300-square-meter building, from the shop windows to the six floors, up to the panoramic terrace, but always ensuring the shop's opening during the entire renovation period.
In October 2019 there was a rebirth of Turin in Via Lagrange: a completely newly renovated building with a new store. Renewed with both offerings and design to keep up with a city like Turin: elegant, mysterious, regal. This is how Rinascente's first mini Flagship Store was born.
In October 2017 the second Flagship Store in Rinascente in Rome Via del Tritone was inaugurated. A building with surprising and impressive architecture, where it's historical and cultural riches have been enhanced. An element of absolute splendour is the archaeological site that can be visited on floor -1. Which brings to light the remains of the Virgin Aqueduct dated 19 BC, since then in operation further connecting the Flagship Store to the heart of the Eternal City.
Contemporary artists and city institutions find space in the windows of our stores on the occasion of Christmas. Among the most scenic projects are "Contemporary Christmas Art" in 2010; the presentations of the Teatro Alla Scala, such as Madama Butterfly (2016); Moritz Waldemeyer (2017) and the artisans of San Gregorio Armeno (2019).
The Food Hall opens in Milan: the top floor of the Flagship Store is entirely dedicated to the food world, introducing a new catering concept for the Italian market. Today’s location is the most appreciated by residents and tourists for its spectacular location and view of the Duomo spires.
In 2011 Rinascente was acquired by Central Retail Corporation, the leading Thai distribution and department store group in Southeast Asia. Sudhitham Chirathivat thus becomes President of Rinascente and Vittorio Radice CEO and is subsequently appointed Vice-Chairman. The current CEO of Rinascente is Pierluigi Cocchini.

And Rinascente is no less: it has always welcomed the best talents and their projects for Design Week. Some examples? "AfroFuture" by Beatrice Galilee and Nana Ocran (2013); Martino Gamper (2014) with "In A State of Repair"; Sabine Marcelis (2019) with "The Boulevard" and "The Plant Ballet".
Ferdinando Bocconi, founder of Rinascente, was not only a great innovator and pioneer in both the production and sale of ready-made clothing. He introduced the concept of a fixed selling price. Also, he was among the first to use electric lights to illuminate his shop window in the centre of Milan. A forerunner spirit that is still present in Rinascente today.
From 1921 to 1955, Marcello Dudovich was in charge of visual communication at Rinascente. The result shows us that a great advertising poster is nothing but pure and simple art: a collection of works in perfect balance between intuition and taste.

In 1954 Rinascente launched the "Compasso d'Oro", the most important award given in industrial design. The award was created to celebrate talents and their innovative creations.

In 2006 the Flagship Store in Milan was renovated which was a turning point in the company. Each floor saw the involvement of internationally renowned architects such as India Mahdavi, for the ground floor and balcony; Studio Mumbai for the first floor; Rodolfo Dordoni for the second and Vincent Van Duysen for the third. From this moment on, a major renovation phase begins, gradually involving all the other stores and many other designers.
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the name created by Gabriele D'Annunzio, Rinascente is staging the exhibition LR100: Stories of Innovations at Palazzo Reale in Milan, curated by OMA/AMO. Design, fashion, art and communication become the protagonists of a path that shows how Rinascente has created new archetypes in taste and stimulated the birth of production systems related to fashion and design.
In 2016 Rinascente Milano Piazza Duomo was named "Best Department Store in the World" by IGDS (Intercontinental Group of Department Stores), the largest international association of department stores, with more than 40 members on five continents.
